The focus this week is:
- What are available, affordable, and accessible mental health resources?
- If someone needs help today where can they go?
- Who can parents contact to get help for their children?
These are on the top of my list.

Hi. I found this on-line. This looks like a promising new resource in Minnesota. "Feeling isolated & overwhelmed by your child’s behavior or mental illness? Not sure where to start or who to talk to? No time to attend support groups or classes? Even phone calls a challenge? Contact NAMI’s Parent Warmline and connect with a parent peer specialist. Each support team member is a parent of a child or young adult with a mental illness or challenging behavior that can help you find resources, answers to your questions and a support network. You are not alone. Email to: parent.resources@namimn.org. Messages will get a response within 24 hours. (Note: This is not a crisis line. For a mental health crisis, contact your county crisis team or 911.)"
ReplyDeleteThanks for the response! It's great that they are using an email alternative. Here's another resource that's excellent for educators and mental health professionals, "who cares about Kelsey?" produced by Dan Habib. This DVD focuses on students with emotional behavior disorders and shares approaches that help them turn their situations around--http://www.whocaresaboutkelsey.com/home --Allyson

What is a Crisis?
You the parent/gaurdian define your crisis. The Crisis Nursery believes a crisis is anything that keeps someone from being the kind of parent/gaurdian they want to be. Here are a few reasons parents and guardians have called the Crisis Helpline and asked for help:
--Emotional or physical exhaustion and in need of a break from parenting
--Medical or mental health concerns and the need for someone to care for your children
--Housing problems or the need for someone to care for children when looking for a place to live
--Domestic violence situations and the need for a safe place for children to stay
--Court ordered appearances and the need for someone to care for children
--For any of the above reasons or any other reason call the Crisis Helpline, 763-591-0100
